Manny Ramirez Strikes Out In Boston Real Estate
Boston took one last dig at Manny Ramirez in the form of a real estate whiff.
The former Red Sox World Series MVP finally dumped his downtown pad, a whopping six years after it first went up for sale. Ramirez's four-bedroom, six-bath penthouse -- with a picture of Fenway Park on one of the bedroom walls -- closed at a loss, according to the Boston Herald.
Originally on the real estate market for $6.9 million in 2005, Manny eventually increased the price to $8.5 million after failing to find a buyer at the original price. The Herald reports the unit located at Boston's Ritz-Carlton sold for $5.5 million. That's a 35.2 percent drop in value from its highest asking price.

Manny ended up unloading his Beantown pad for nearly $300,000 less than he paid for it back in 2001. That's lunch money for the slugger, though, as Ramirez earned $206.8 million during his 19 seasons with the Indians, Red Sox, Dodgers, White Sox and Rays. That's the third highest total career salary in Major League Baseball history. Only Yankees Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter made more.
So a $300,000 hit over the course of a decade isn't so bad in this real estate market. But Sox fans will still be pleased to know ManRam didn't rob the bank in the real estate market the way some say he did in his last years on the field.
