Helping Out A Roller Derby Queen
A Community of Agents Helps One of Their Own!
Yorba Linda, CA (Grassroots Newswire) May 12, 2010 -- Ruth, otherwise known as Chickee to most people, is a wonderful, caring person. She has a way of warming up a room with her presence. Ruth has been an agent with ERA for over 16 years. During Ruth’s tenure at ERA, she has told us about her days as a roller derby skater for the L. A. Thunderbirds in the 50’s. She was what was called the “bowling ball” of the team. This means that she was the one that was launched ahead of the rest of the team. Through her participation in the sport, Ruth has her face and jaw wired. After she left the derby, she owned her own beauty salon for awhile. Times changed and she left her salon behind.
She has been self-supporting for most of her life. Ruth has a son, Gary, and one grandson. She has been divorced twice and both of her ex's are deceased. As the broker/owner of ERA North Orange County Real Estate, Walt Tamulinas reflected, "Ruthie (aka) Chickee is our little roller derby queen. She has some trouble with the stairs when she's wearing high heels, but she always skates hard to the close of escrow. We love her!"
The truth is that Ruth is slowing down. Yes, Ruth does try to do real estate part time and she also has been trying to work at her present job as a beautician at a beauty salon in Placentia. The last few years have really been hard for her. Her clientele has dropped off by over 50% while her rental space for her mobile home has been increasing consistently year-after-year. Many times, this has made it very difficult for her to make the payments. Real estate has, for many of us, had a downturn and has not generated the additional income that it did in the past. Ruth never complains of her hardship but she keeps on persevering and doing what she has to do in order to "survive".
Ruth has been fairly healthy over the years, but lately she has had come serious bouts with pneumonia. However, Ruth has been able to bounce back. The most recent illness that Ruth suffered in April caused her to be admitted to the hospital. Ruth actually drove herself to the hospital because she was concerned about the cost of the ambulance.
After quite a few tests, the doctors found out that Ruth had congestive heart failure with water around the lungs and the heart. After several days of treatment, she was released. Ruth actually lobbied to have the doctors release her early because she was concerned about the cost. Ruth is slowly getting better although she did try to go straight back to work due to the fact that she could not afford to take any more time off.
So is this the end of the story? At ERA North Orange County, the office is working to help Ruth in some small way. When asked about the plan, sales manager Duane Beisner had this to say, “Here is the plan. Rather than just passing the hat and signing a get well card for Ruth, the office has decided to make it a team-building event at the same time. We here at ERA believe that the office can help Ruth and also experience some joy and fun in the process as well. That is what is called a win-win.” Duane also offered a special quote of the day for which he is well known. “I think this one applies to our effort her to help Ruth,” sated Duane. “It is by Edmund Burke and it states: ‘All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.’”
The office is having a Poker Night/Bunko Night at the office on Thursday, May 20th from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Pizza and beverages will be provided by the office. Anyone can donate any amount that they like. An anonymous donor has agreed to match whatever amount is raised through this effort. Everyone is invited to come. The office asks that you would just give a call to Duane and let him know so he can get a proper count at 714-996-3000, ext. 347. If you can’t attend yet would like to lend a hand, then please drop off or mail any donations of money or items for door prizes at ERA North Orange Coty, 18431 Yorba Linda Blvd., Yorba Linda. CA. 92886. (Checks should be made out to Ruth Arisohn). Note: Please do not contact Ruth directly before the event as the office is trying to make this fundraiser a surprise for her.
